Handshake

Can we handshake on it

This has gone for way too long

Our minds have gone numb

We’re tugged to where it is louder

And where there is voice, there is power

We’re the new generation

And we’re born with our helmets on

Our Hearts, your modeling clay

Only it’s no child’s play

Our lives are at stake

Let’s just handshake on it

And we hope you’re tired too

It’s been tiring for us all

Don’t you miss simplicity too?

Don’t worry, we’ll take it slow

It’s cold yet exciting,

Like playing with snow

Though I see hope in winter

I welcome the first days of spring

For this planet is full of colors

Urging you to start a new leaf

Taking off our helmets at last

Picking up our hearts in hast

Off to make a beginning for peace

Until then we believe,

That before your arms ‘’fall’’

Our summertime will be your handshake

So let’s handshake on it

We’re watching closely

But our guard is up (when is it not?)

How your world welcomes the human being

Breathing for the first time today

Can we just handshake on it?

For we’re the new generation

Born in a darkness-ridden world

Longing, for the ever-lasting light

And if forever is a long time

Good luck keeping us away from our fight.
